The story is about Hedgie who finds a stocking and pokes his nose in and the stocking gets stuck on his prickles. One by one the farm animals see Hedgie with the stocking who is pretending that he is wearing a hat. Jan Brett has created a dramatic and beautiful picture book. She brings the animals to life with warmth and humour and according to the Ukrainian tradition from which the story comes from. How the eight animals find comfort in the mitten is amazing and only she could do this.
